PHILADELPHIA, PA — Please Touch Museum, The Children’s Museum of Philadelphia, will kick off its 30th birthday year with a day of birthday themed activities Monday, January 2nd. The museum has been enriching the lives of children by providing learning opportunities through play locally and nationally since 1976.
Please Touch Museum joined the Philadelphia museum community as a pilot project located in a donated space at the Academy of Natural Sciences. Children, parents and educators were eager to participate in the Please Touch experience, even if it meant waiting in line until it was their turn to play and learn in our innovative exhibits. Since opening day, Please Touch has moved twice and expanded once at our current location.
For 30 years, Please Touch Museum has fostered learning through purposeful play, encouraged parent-child interaction and designed experiences to help children prepare for school. The museum’s exhibits and programs have been recognized by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Child Magazine, MSN City Guide, The Observer of London, Zagat Survey and Peter Greenberg, travel editor for The Today Show. Please Touch has gained an international reputation as a first museum for children under the age of seven.
As Please Touch Museum’s official birthday — October 2, 2006 — approaches, the museum plans to make the 2nd day of each month a “Birthday Countdown Celebration” day.
Schedule of activities for Monday, January 2
- 10 a.m. - Birthday Story Time and Activity - Birthday Countdown Calendar: decorate a 2006 calendar that helps count down the days and months to the museum’s 30th birthday
