Puppets and Characters

Please Touch Museum puppets and characters provide museum visitors opportunities for playful, improvisational, and magical dramatic interactions in a variety of contexts with an assortment of individuals. Learn more about our puppet family and characters below and be sure to say hello to them during your next visit!

Puppets

Pinky
Please Touch Museum’s favorite pink pal, Pinky loves to play.  Always eager and excited, this loveable furry friend is often found in the thick of things at museum special events.  Pinky even has his very own blog!
Winston
Winston is a "wizard in training" but is already an expert on making friends with museum visitors! With his trusty wand by his side, Winston is sure to make any Please Touch visit even more magical.
Pickle
A little grizzly and a lot green, Pickle likes to nap and take it easy. Tickle his furry feet, however, and he’s sure to give you a giggle.
Dragon
Goofy Dragon is most often seen in Fairytale Garden. More silly than ferocious, he likes to eat mittens, not kittens, and likes to have his belly scratched.
Dr. Penny
PTM’s in-house physician, Dr. Penny makes her rounds in the CHOP medical center. She reminds kids to wash hands often and that the baby patients in the ward need love more than anything else!
Captain Pierce
Ahoy there, landlubbers! Watch out for Captain Pierce! He’s a Pirate through and through with a hook for a hand, a patch on one eye, and a peg for a leg. Even though he’s a little rough around the edges, he’s really more friendly than fierce. Arrrrrgh!
Penelope Princess of Play
Penelope, Winston the Wizard’s little sister, works hard to be a good princess, but still needs more practice. Her favorite color is purple and she is perfecting her curtsy. Princess Penelope enjoys dancing and talking to other princesses at the museum.
Marvin the Manager
In charge of the ShopRite Supermarket, Marvin makes sure that everyone can find what they need, whether it’s a loaf of bread, a can of soup, or a friendly chat.
Gus the Bus Driver
Why did the chicken cross the road? Why, to catch the bus, of course, since Gus the Bus driver was rolling by! Gus is quick with a joke and always yields the wheel to drivers in training. Sometimes Gus even takes a spin on SEPTA through Philly!
Gorilla and Monkey
These PTM pets don’t talk, but like to listen— especially to the music in Rainforest Rhythm. They like to jam along to a song—Gorilla likes to hit the drums and Monkey shakes an egg!
Benny Bear (and his teddy bear, Shamrock)
Benny Bear knows that teddy bears are the very best friends. That’s why he never goes anywhere without his trusty sidekick, Shamrock. Shamrock doesn’t talk, but he likes to wave when he meets museum visitors.

Characters

Mad Hatter
This Madcap chap runs around the museum wreaking little bit of havoc and a lot of fun! He likes to greet visitors as they arrive or depart, and is sure to add entertainment to any visit.
Alice
Never quite sure what she will encounter in Wonderland, Alice is always glad to meet the children that descend down the rabbit hole or wander into the book. She fancies tea parties, croquet, and, of course, play!
Chef Charlene and Chef Sean aka “The Kooky Cooks”
The Kooky Cooks like to whip up some silly fun in the ShopRite Supermarket. Kids can join them for a cooking show, play with them in the market, or help create a crazy concoction in the kitchen!
Papa Bear
Loveable big Papa Bear can sometimes be found napping in the Three Bears House. This gentle giant loves to dance with kids, and even though he doesn’t talk, he is fluent in bear hugs.
Goldilocks
The girl with the golden hair that wandered into the Three Bears House doesn’t like Papa bear’s porridge (too hot) or Mama Bear’s bed (too soft) but she likes to play and pretend with all the kids that come into the exhibit (just right!)
